This is my last blog post. Last time I wrote about my project so this time I will talk about all of innovation. I will really miss working on my project and writing these posts over the summer; innovation class has made English one of my favorite subjects. Each week we are given the opportunity to do something new and exciting. I especially like how we are able to choose what we want to learn. My project has helped me become a better writer and prepared me for later in my life. Having a long project like this with specific deadlines helped me get used to handling time wisely. Innovation time has been a great experience and I can't wait to get started on a new project next year.

It is almost the end of the year so I am taking today's post to summarize and reflect on my entire project. I started off with a simple idea; I wanted to write a book. In the past I always used to love writing fiction books. I never liked being forced to write essays. But I wanted to do something different. I decided that I would write nonfiction for my entire project so that I would teach people about interesting things and improve my nonfiction writing at the same time. I'm really thankful of my choice because I know that I have improved and now I actually enjoy writing nonfiction. The only thing that I would change would be to write more. I spent most of my time researching topics that I thought would be interesting and not enough actually doing the writing. This week I took pictures of some of the quotes that I have been working on. Here are four of them.
This week I didn't get much done with my project but that was only because Abby, Itzy, and I were working on the quote project. Basically what we are doing is painting vibrant backgrounds onto papers and then writing quotes in all different fonts over them. When we are done Abby is going to combine them all into a huge collage. I might have mentioned this earlier but when it is done I'm planning on posting a picture of it.
Last week for innovation I researched more interesting topics to write about. I have a general idea of what I will be doing this week. There are so many possibilities; narrowing it down becomes hard. Since my topic is kind of vague I have the potential to write about just about anything. There are news stories, art pieces, and a number of other things that I want to add to my project when I get the chance.
Last week I helped Abby with her innovation project. She is making a collage of quotes on backgrounds of vibrantly painted paper. She had about fifty papers that needed quotes on them so I helped with that. I'm thinking of posting some pictures of her project on my Padlet. When it's finished it is going to look really cool!
As for my project, I just thought a bit more about making the youtube videos. Right now I'm just brain-storming possible ways to present the information in videos. I can imagine how it will look but I know that it will still take a lot more work. Those weird words that you hear aliens, minions, or odd creatures say in movies are sometimes actual languages. People come up with new words, choose definitions, and write a key. I thought that that was really cool and decided to write about it in my Padlet last week.
On a totally unrelated note, Mrs. Neisen suggested that I make my padlet posts into youtube videos which I think is a great idea. I've been looking into it and basically anyone can create a youtube account so it shouldn't be too hard to get started. This week I looked for things to write about again. The problem isn't that I don't have any ideas; I know that there are tons of possibilities. What I'm having trouble with is finding one that is interesting enough for people to read about. I have found that doing things and reading about them are entirely different things. Here is an example. I found a website that talked about some really interesting things that you can do. There were crafts, cool places to visit on a vacation, and all sorts of other activities. One of the crafts was to make a 3 dimensional model of a city. Making a mini Battle Creek sounds like it could be really fun to do. It might be a lot of work but when you were done and could look at it it would probably be really interesting. Reading about building it, on the other hand, would be similar to watching paint dry. Nobody wants to read an essay that goes on and on about folding papers to make buildings. That's the problem. Every once and a while, however, I find something that seems interesting enough to write about. I think that I have another one of those however and I'm really excited to get back to writing next week.
This was a really busy week. I decided to make step by step pictures for how to make an origami crane. I made a red backdrop and then took around thirty pictures as I made the crane. I went onto Padlet to upload them but found out that it could only take one document or picture. In the end each picture had to be transferred to a google doc which was downloaded as a PDF. That messed up my schedule but I think that it was a good learning experience because you always need to keep in mind that projects don't always go as expected. Luckily, I think that I will have extra time next week to finish it up.
Along with working on my project, I tried to come up with a sort of goal for when I should be done. But as I tried to look into the future, I realized that there really was no "last day" for it. I could keep working on my project for the rest of my life. I will, of course, present my project before the end of the year but that doesn't mean that it is really finished. As I learn interesting things, I will remember to record them so that I can share them with the world.
